Sifu Z instructor qualifications:

Since 2007 SF Zeigler’s Sifu Level qualifications have been as such.

Level I

Level I assistants are not qualified to teach Wing Chun on their own nor start their own schools/clubs/business etc in connection with US Wing Chun, SF Zeigler or any of his business holdings.

The qualifications for Level II Sifu require the student to demonstrate a high level of application of the Wing Chun system. This is achieved through their commitment and dedication toward assisting others in class on and off-line. It is expressed through their ability to communicate and effectively problem solve. Level II Sifu’s work in direct cooperation with the head instructor (Sifu SF Zeigler aka Sifu Z) to teach Wing Chun and begin their own practice/school/club/academy etc.

Upon Level II developing their own body of students, they are also starting the process of earning their Level III Sifu certification.

Level III

Level III certification qualifies the practitioner to start and manage their own Wing Chun organization as an affiliate of Sifu Z. These qualifications are demonstrated by maintaining their Level I & II standard and by respectfully demonstrating their advances within the system. This may include the efficacy of any drills, exercises, form alterations or other concept related to Wing Chun training.

Level III Sifu’s are trusted and endorsed as legitimate Wing Chun Kung Fu Masters by SF Zeigler. They operate in full sovereignty as their own franchise/business/club etc. Each Level III Sifu creates a code of conduct in cooperation with Sifu Z and their status as an affiliate is contingent upon upholding that code.

Fighting The Fakers

When a student who has not earned the title of Sifu decides to break off and start their own practice that may be considered illegitimate or disrespectful to their original martial arts school, it can be a delicate situation.

Legal Considerations: If the situation involves misuse of intellectual property, unauthorized use of the school’s name, or any legal issues, will result in litigation.

Remember that in martial arts, maintaining a respectful and honorable approach to conflicts is vital. It’s essential to address the situation in a way that upholds the integrity of the martial art and its lineage while trying to find an amicable solution whenever possible.

What is a Sifu?

Grand Master Ip Man & Master Helio Gracie

A Kung Fu master is an individual who has achieved a high level of expertise in the practice of Chinese martial arts, specifically Kung Fu. The term “Sifu” is used to address a Kung Fu master and translates to “teacher” or “master” in Chinese. A Sifu is not only a skilled practitioner but also a dedicated instructor who imparts their knowledge, wisdom, and discipline to students.

Lineage is of utmost importance in the world of Kung Fu. It refers to the historical and ancestral line of masters and disciples in a specific Kung Fu style or school. Lineage preserves the authenticity and integrity of the art, ensuring that techniques and principles are passed down from generation to generation. It establishes a direct connection to the martial arts’ origins and traditions, creating a sense of lineage pride and responsibility.

A Sifu plays a crucial role within the context of lineage by being the bridge between past and future generations. They inherit the knowledge and teachings from their own Sifu and, in turn, pass them on to their students. This transmission of wisdom and skills is a sacred duty for a Sifu, as they carry the legacy of their martial art style and ensure its continuation. A Sifu’s guidance and mentorship extend beyond physical techniques to encompass moral values, discipline, and personal growth, making them not only a martial arts instructor but also a life mentor.
